A note to all Ebay buyers:
Please note that Israeli mail service to some countries is still limited because of the global pandemic and there are delays in the shipment and arrival of items to some destinations. Shipping procedures are slow and buyers must expect long mail time. Buyers must acknowledge these issues before making a bid. Thank you for the understanding.
Up for auction is a rare vintage 1927 black & white photo of the
    Stinson
    SB-1 Detroiter Biplane
Of Sir Hubert Wilkins Arctic Expedition which was sponsored by The Detroit News.
To start off, Wilkins had two planes – the
    Detroiter
, a Fokker trimotor and the
    Alaskan
, a Fokker monoplane fitted with skis. Wilkins was the first to suggest this form of landing gear. These planes were severely damaged having crashed either on landing or take-off. They were replaced with two Stinson bi-planes. On 29th March 1927, he had made the flight that also ended with a forced landing on the ice due to engine problem. After they to restart the plane’s engine the flight continued but the engine failed again. They crash landed in the dark onto the ice. It was a remarkable escape. Wilkins took a sighting and calculated their position to be 72º 30’ north and 155º west.  For thirteen days they walked some 125 miles (200 km.) in the ice, to the Trading Post at Beechey Point. James Takpuk, an Inuit who Wilkins knew from the Canadian Arctic Expedition went to Point Barrow to get help. The other Stinson was sent to fly them back.
The photograph has an embossed stamp mark:

It is also stamped with Detroit News mark on the backside.
Some handwritten text on the backside.

I have obtained this photo from a large aviation collection. I will be listing more photos in single auctions until they are gone. Please see my other photos. I will be happy to combine shipment up to 4 photos.

    Condition
    :
The photograph is in good condition for its age. It has a cut on its lower right corner.
This is not a modern print so please
study the images carefully to determine the condition of this vintage photograph, as it may not be in perfect condition. It may contain wrinkles, cracks, and possibly even tears due to its age and how it was handled before it got to me. A scanner may interpret colors and contrast differently than human eyes will, so it is possible that the actual photograph may be slightly darker or lighter in person.
This will make a fine addition to any collection of aviation history.
I don't consider myself an expert on all my findings, but I do try my best to describe them the best I can. That's why I ask that you ask questions first before bidding if you aren't sure
about this item! I will be happy to send any additional photo’s.
