One Naturally Holey Beach Stone, Coquinoid Sandstone
Surf-tumbled by the tides and time.
Collected by me along the shores of the Treasure Coast.
As I was strolling the shore the other day, I saw this large “a” staring up at me.
I’m always amazed at what I might find. You’d think after all these years I would not be
surprised anymore, but nope..... there is always something new.
This a-shaped stone is 2 3/8 inches tall, about 2 1/4 inches wide,
and 5/8 inch thick.
The hole is minimum 1/2" diameter and fully, easily accommodates
the 1/2” pipe, as seen in the third photo.
The shape allows for easy gripping and viewing through the large hole.
Nature is cool.

Hag stones have occupied myth and magic folklore for centuries.

Hag stones are stones that have a
naturally occurring hole inside them. These stones are often
found along the coastal points, beaches, and streams. These
holes occur from the elements
beating down upon them over
many years.  There are also speculations that these mysterious
stones may have been formed by a “worm hole”. A Hag stone
is also known as a Witch Stone
or Adder Stone or Holey Stone
and has quite a bit of lore and many magical properties associated
with them.  Part of the folklore is that if you look through the holes
you can see fairies.
