Want to know if a mineral is calcite? It will effervesce with a drop of HCl, as will limestone and marble. These bottles are refillable and we offer them empty or about half full of dilute hydrochloric acid. Just touching the tip to a piece of calcite, or a very slight squeeze, is enough to do the trick.
Have access to lab reagents? Fill your own - the tip snaps out. A screw top keeps what's inside inside, though countless geology students have a hole in a shirt pocket from not screwing the cap on tightly. Let us know if you want these dry or wet.
