    Description

    Arcadius AE-2
An AE-2 of Arcadius (383-408 AD) with beautiful black and sand patina.  It is nicely centered with good details on both sides.  There is some striking weakness on the left hand legends on both sides.
This is an interesting type because AVGVSTVS is fully spelled out in the obverse legend instead of using the usual abbreviation of AVG.
(Diameter: 21 mm.   Weight: 5.52 grams)
    OB:
Diademed, draped and cuirassed bust, right - D N ARCADIVS P F AVGVSTVS
    REV:
Arcadius standing right, foot on captive, holding labarum and globe - VIRTVS EXERCITI
    Tau/Rho in left field
This coin was struck at the Constantinopolis mint with mint mark CONSA.  It is attributed as RIC, Vol. IX, #83.
    Lovely Patina
