    Atomic number 66, dysprosium is a hard, silver-coloured rare earth (or lanthanide) metal. Dysprosium has one of the highest magnetic strengths of all elements and, as such, is primarily used in permanent rare earth magnets in order to increase their working temperature.
    Due to the metal's high thermal neutron absorption cross section, it is also used to make control rods for certain nuclear reactors. It is considered a considered a strategic metal by the US Department of Defence and European Commission.
