History: After some difficulty getting a programming box that I purchased to work regularly I designed my own. I found other people needed one since the company I bought one from (that was iffy) has closed shop.
This is designed to program the EF Johnson 5300 series of radios.  53xx. 53xxSL or ES.   It has a switch to select modes.  This is because it also does firmware updates. However  I urge you to contact me if you are thinking of doing firmware updates.  This is the one sure fire way to ruin a good radio.  I've learned many lessons the hard way so please please please call first before you do any firmware updates.
Free Shipping!  I will ship these in 2 business days.
Has LEDs to display radio's power and blinks a blue led to indicate data transfer.  *Good Diagnostics.
Computer Information:  This is an RS232 DB9 (Old School) program device.  The software for programming is available on the web and is Windoze Based.  It was written for Windows XP but I use it on a Windows 10 box.  The only critical thing on more modern computers (Those that don't have a 9 pin RS232 on the back) is you having a USB to RS232 cable that has all the RS232 Signals and does RS232 levels (
    go positive and negative)
not +3 or +5 to ground.  Look for a cable that uses the FTDI chip.
If all else fails an old computer that has a real DB9 RS232 is your best bet.
Also t  I assure you there seems to be a small mountain of them that can often be obtained for the asking.  Just be aware you may get more of them then you want.  I've had success with old Dell Laptops.  I've even used slightly more modern Thinkpads that have PCMCIA slots and a serial card or a docking station.  Cheap USB circuit board type converters or cables that only do a few of the RS232 signals just won't work.  *Its because they use some of these obscure signals.
*NOTE - Plastic case seen in one of the pix is now included.
