Fully Silvered Gallienus Antoninianus
This is an exceptionally nice and high grade coin of Gallienus (253-268 AD).  The reign of Gallienus is considered by many to be the low point of Roman coinage, producing crude looking, small and unattractive coins.  This is not one of them.  It is in very high grade, struck on a large flange and still retains all of its original silvering.  The silver content of Roman coins had been debased by Gallienus' reign, which saw copper coins coated with a thin layer of silver.  The silver soon wore away as the coin circulated.  This coin saw little, if any circulation.
The reverse design and Latin legend honor "Eternal Rome".

This coin was struck at the Rome mint between 262-264 AD and is attributed as RIC, Vol. V, Part 1, #654.
