Hello and thank you for viewing our listing. Today we offer an excellent end cut specimen of Pumice/Tuft that I just recently found in North Dakota. I have searched high and low for anything my curiosity/eye would grab hold too here in North Dakota. Everything is buried, on private farmland or grazing land, so I have been limited in my searches for the most part up here. Now it's freezing! lol. Here's my story and I'm sticking with it darn it! lol. While on my way to Killdeer North Dakota for a cross county track meet for my son Nikko, I found a tailing type of pile on the side of the highway that someone dumped. On my return home I stopped to check it out. I have stopped for many of these piles now over 2 years and nothing, Scoria, by the state fulls, lol. This time some strange blackish/orangey stones were here and there in the rubble. On closer examination it was volcanic rock called pumice or tuft. It is strange in the fact that it looks like the grey material pumice was slowing rolling over scoria or being settled on it from the air? Who knows, but it's awesome! I found it back in September but just now got around to cutting it and it was sure to amaze. Not sure how abundant pumice is here in North Dakota? Will research this more in the days to come. Just excited to share the newest find!
My catalog number is M-4137 and the specimen weighs in at 0.89 grams. Pumice is extremely light and floats in water. I might as well not weigh the specimens, lol. But I will and document it all like normal. You get a nice end cut with no weight hardly, crazy. I'm used to extremely dense meteorites, lol.
